Allegheny National Forest
More than 500,000 acres within one hour of campus. Camping, biking, canoeing/kayaking, hiking, fishing and lots of other cool stuff!

Erie National Wildlife Preserve
Seven miles from the Allegheny campus. The preserve, which features a nature center, is a great place for hiking and bird watching. Call (814) 789-3585.

Ernst Bike Trail/French Creek Rails-to-Trails
Access to the trail is just three miles from campus on Mercer Pike. The trail is easy to moderate (few hills), and it has great views of the French Creek waterway.

Woodcock Lake and Recreation Area
6 miles north of campus. With more than 300 acres, this is great place to take a picnic lunch or traverse a nature trail. Camp sites are also available in adjacent Colonel Crawford Park.

French Creek Canoe and Kayak
Less than 30 minutes from campus. Reasonable rental rates and a great way to explore beautiful French Creek.

Nature Tourism in Northwest Pennsylvania
This web site is a comprehensive resource that describes various nature and outdoor-based tourist opportunities in northwest Pennsylvania.

Golf
There are dozens of local golf courses in the area. Favorites include Hailwood, Riverside, Venango, Whispering Pines and Oakland Beach. Reasonable rates.

Presque Isle Peninsula State Park
Approximately 35 miles north of campus. There are seven miles of beaches on Lake Erie, an 11-mile paved walking/biking/skating trail, and boating on the bay.

Pymatuning Lake State Park and Dam
20 miles west of campus. Fishing, boating and camping are popular summer activities at this site that straddles the Pennsylvania and Ohio border.

Niagara Falls
Two and one-half hours north of campus.
