Learn more about Allegheny

I'm contemplative, and I'm competitive.

When Seth Walbridge (Conneaut, OH) came to Allegheny, he knew he wanted to major in something that would prepare him for medical school—which is why he has gone on to major in biochemistry. What he didn't know was that he'd double major in religious studies.

Seth Walbridge

"Originally I wasn't even going to take a course in religion, but I took one my first semester and it ended up being my favorite course." Seth appreciates being able to approach the world from two very different perspectives: "So often, people think of religion and science in terms of controversy—each trying to prove the other wrong. I like to be able to look at things from both sides."

For Seth, religion isn't only an academic pursuit: He's the chaplain of his fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon. But Seth's interests are more than just spiritual; he's a Special Olympics volunteer and is captain of the rugby team. In the latter role, he describes himself as "fiercely competitive: I hate to lose."

"Some people might have the tendency to stereotype me as an athlete and frat guy," says Seth, "and it's fun to defy those stereotypes."

It's our students who make Allegheny College the unique and special place that it is. Allegheny students have such a variety of interests and passions and skills that after a while unusual combinations don't seem so unusual at all. Will Allegheny fit your interests, skills and talents?
