Rummage Sale To Benefit Project Chacocente

MEADVILLE, Pa. – May 2, 2008 – Gators Give Back, a group of Allegheny students who are raising funds for Project Chacocente in Nicaragua, will hold a rummage sale from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 10 at Grace United Methodist Church in Meadville.

All proceeds from the sale will be sent to Project Chacocente, an organization that moves families from the city dump in Managua, Nicaragua – where up to 2,000 persons scavenge for food each day – into rural areas where they are taught the skills they need to live independently.

Many of the students in Gators Give Back participated last year in an Allegheny College Experiential Learning study tour to Nicaragua, where they saw firsthand the living conditions of families who live in the Managua city dump because they have no better option.

Donations for the rummage sale are being collected daily in the Campus Center at Allegheny College and can also be dropped off at Grace United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 8. Anyone wishing to arrange for pick-up of larger items can call 814-883-0384.
