Associate Professor of Geology Ron Cole is lead author of an article, “Eocene volcanism above a depleted mantle slab window in southern Alaska,” in the January-February issue of the Geological Society of America Bulletin, published by the Geological Society of America.

Jennifer Winge '96 has been promoted to the position of director of admissions. A member of the Allegheny College community for over 13 years, Winge has served as associate director of admissions for the past four years.

Department of Computer Science instructor Gregory M. Kapfhammer has recently published three papers and given four presentations. “Towards the Prioritization of Regression Test Suites with Data Flow Information,” co-authored with Matthew Rummel '04 and Assistant Professor of Computer Science Andrew Thall, was published in the Proceedings of the ACM SIGAPP Symposium on Applied Computing in the Software Engineering Track. “Testing in Resource Constrained Execution Environments,” co-authored with Mary Lou Soffa (University of Virginia) and Daniel Mosse (University of Pittsburgh), was published in the Proceedings of ACM/IEEE International Conference on Automated Software Engineering. Kapfhammer also published “Towards the Measurement of Tuple Space Performance” with Daniel Fiedler, Kristen Walcott, and Thomas Richardson, all Class of 2005, in the ACM SIGMETRICS Performance Evaluation Review. This paper was also co-authored by Ahmed Amer and Panos K. Chrysanthis (University of Pittsburgh). Information about these research projects and versions of the papers are accessible at: http://cs.allegheny.edu/~gkapfham/research/papers/.

Kapfhammer gave two invited presentations at the Ninth Jini Community Meeting, an elite gathering of professionals from industry and academia who design, implement, and evaluate distributed systems. The keynote presentation “Further Experience with Teaching Distributed Systems to Undergraduates” describes Kapfhammer's experiences with Computer Science 441. “SETTLE: A Tuple Space Benchmarking and Testing Framework” explores the implementation and use of a software tool suite that conducts experiments to measure distributed system performance. Kapfhammer also presented “A Test Adequacy Infrastructure with Database Interaction Awareness” in the University of California, Santa Barbara's Department of Computer Science Colloquium. Finally, Kapfhammer presented “Empirical Evaluation of an Approach to Resource Constrained Test Suite Execution” in the Department of Computer Science Colloquium at the University of Pittsburgh. The presentations are available for download at http://cs.allegheny.edu/~gkapfham/research/present/. More information about Kapfhammer's teaching and research is also available at http://cs.allegheny.edu/~gkapfham/.
