MEADVILLE, Pa. – April 10, 2009 – In conjunction with Earth Day, the Office of Religious Life at Allegheny College will offer a workshop for congregations on environmental stewardship on Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The workshop will present an introduction to how people of faith can stay “green” and is open to clergy, staff and laypersons of any religious community, whether this is a new concern or something the congregation has been working on for years.
The workshop will be led by Allegheny Chaplain Jane Ellen Nickell and students from an upper level class in Religion and Ecology. The schedule includes an introduction to environmental stewardship, followed by break-out workshops on worship, education, buildings and grounds, home and office, and advocacy. It will conclude with lunch and a wrap-up discussion.
The cost is $10 per person, which covers lunch and workshop materials. The event will be held at Allegheny College's Campus Center in Room 301-302. To register, contact the Allegheny College Office of Religious Life at 814-332-2800.
Following the workshop, participants are welcome to join “Focus on the Future: Policy, Economy and the Environment,” a panel discussion with business and government leaders, at Allegheny's Ford Chapel.
