Allegheny College Dance and Movement Studies Program To Present Spring Concert

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Feb. 23, 2009 – The Dance and Movement Studies program at Allegheny College will present its 2009 spring dance concert at 8 p.m. on March 5, 6 and 7 in the Montgomery Performance Space.

Developed in conjunction with the public programming of Allegheny's Year of Health—a campus-wide effort to examine how health intersects with our lives on a personal, community and global scale—the concert will explore the multi-dimensional features of movement's potential to enhance both personal wellbeing and social wellness.

The concert features live music performed by Unkle John's Band and local performer Lisbet Searle-White. Choreographer Betsy Sumerfield is collaborating with the band using music from the Beatles album “Abbey Road.” Directed by James Reedy, Searle-White will accompany a solo by Hannah Cosdon. Reedy will also present a solo by Casey Fenton, an Allegheny student who is minoring in dance movement studies.

Advanced ballroom students directed by Tom Erdos will perform dance styles that include tango and swing. Eleanor Weisman is collaborating with students in an interpretation of “The Student Body.” Other pieces in the concert include dances choreographed by Leslie Petasis and Lisa Hardej.

The dance concert is free and open to the public, although seating is limited. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling the Dance and Movement Studies Program at 332-2813.
