MEADVILLE, Pa. – Feb. 20, 2009 – Sheila Kay Adams, a nationally known storyteller and ballad singer, will bring her stories of growing up in the North Carolina mountains to Allegheny College's Ford Chapel on Monday, March 2 at 7 p.m.
“Adams can make you laugh,” writes the Chattanooga Times Free Press. “And she can make you clear your throat and wipe at the corners of your eyes from emotion. This is no small thing. She has the gift.” Life Magazine describes her stories as “pure mountain magic.”
Adams tours extensively at festivals and colleges across the United States. Her first book, “Come Go Home With Me,” which has been made into an audio book, won the North Carolina Historical Society's award for historical fiction in 1997. Her latest book, “My Old True Love,” a novel based on a true family story, was a finalist for the 2004 Book of the Year Award of both the Southeastern Booksellers Association and the Appalachian Writers Association.
Adams' performance at Allegheny is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Joshua Searle-White at (814) 332-2706 or jsearle@allegheny.edu.
