MEADVILLE, PA – Jan. 30, 2007 –Allegheny College will celebrate Faith Week 2007, an annual week of events designed to increase campus awareness of religious issues and matters of faith, from February 4 to 11. The theme for this year's Faith Week is “Called to Serve.” The Religious Life Council, an interfaith body representing all religious life groups at Allegheny College, sponsors Faith Week events, which include:
· Chapel service: A Service of Christian Unity—Sunday, Feb. 4 at 10:45 a.m. in Ford Memorial Chapel; juice and donuts at 10:15 a.m. in the Chapel Oratory.
· Roman Catholic Mass: Sunday, Feb. 4 at 5 p.m. in Ford Memorial Chapel. Led by Rev. Mark Hoffman, Catholic chaplain.
· Lunch discussion with Erin Landini, director of social justice for the Erie Diocese: Monday, Feb. 5 at noon in Campus Center Room 301/302. Sponsored by Allegheny Newman. Lunch will be provided
· Faith Week keynote event: “Crossing the Faith Line”—Monday, Feb. 5 at 8 p.m. in Ford Memorial Chapel. Staff from the Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC) Program will share their mission to encourage young people to strengthen their religious identity, foster inter-religious understanding, and cooperate to serve the common good. Sponsored by Religious Life Council.
· Lunch discussion: “Meet the Interfaith Youth Core”—Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 12:15 p.m. in Campus Center Room 206. Meet IFYC staff members Cassie Meyer, Jenan Mohajir and Noah Silverman in an informal conversation about their faith and their common work. Sponsored by Religious Life Council. Lunch will be provided.
· Lunch discussion with David Roncolato, director of the Office of Community Service at Allegheny: Wednesday, Feb. 7 at noon in Campus Center Room 301/302. Sponsored by Allegheny Christian Outreach and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Lunch will be provided.
· Shabbat service: Friday, Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the Jewish Community Center (corner of Park Ave. and Allegheny St.). Guest Rabbi Bonnie Sharfman will lead this weekly observance of the Jewish Sabbath. Sponsored by Allegheny Hillel.
· Service Saturday: Saturday, Feb. 10, 8:30 a.m. to noon. Religious Life Council members will take part in service opportunities in the Meadville community. Assemble in Reis Hall.
· Lunch discussion on Mitzvot: Saturday, Feb. 10 at 12:30 p.m. in Campus Center Room 206. Guest Rabbi Bonnie Sharfman will lead a discussion of the Jewish tradition of Mitzvot, or good deeds. Sponsored by Allegheny Hillel. Lunch will be provided.
· Movie Night: “The Message” (history of Islam)—Saturday, Feb. 10 at 4 p.m. in Campus Center Room 301/302. Will include a break for dinner and discussion. Sponsored by Islamic Awareness Society.
· Interfaith Worship Service: Sunday, Feb. 11 at 10:45 a.m. in Ford Memorial Chapel; juice and donuts at 10:15 a.m. in the Chapel Oratory. Students of all faiths will gather to consider their common call to service and how their faith inspires them to work for a better world for all God's people.
The Interfaith Youth Core events are made possible by the Henry J. Voegtly Memorial Fund and the Samuel Schick Lecture Series. All events are free and open to the public.
