MEADVILLE, PA – Jan. 13, 2006– Allegheny College's capital campaign, Tradition & Transformation: Making a Difference, has reached its $105 million goal six months early. The campaign, which concludes in June 2006, is the largest fundraising effort in Allegheny College's 190-year history.
“Although we have met our initial goal, there are still needs and ongoing initiatives on campus that require support,” said Allegheny president Richard Cook. “To meet those needs, our fundraising for this campaign will continue.”
Among the priorities for the final six months of the campaign are the college's Annual Fund, a new theater and communication arts center, scholarships and endowed funds for faculty and student support.
Donors have established several new funds recently as a result of the Myers Endowment Challenge. College trustee Herb Myers, Allegheny class of 1961, has pledged $1 million to match new endowment gifts and pledges that are made by June 30, 2006 and are designated for faculty support and student learning.
Myers will match dollar-for-dollar gifts and pledges ranging from $25,000 to $100,000 designated to create endowed funds in a variety of areas, including faculty-student collaborative research, internships, service learning opportunities, senior projects, overseas study, conference support, and science and computer equipment.
More than 15,000 donors – including alumni, parents, friends, foundations and corporations – have supported Tradition & Transformation. “We are very grateful for those who have contributed to the success of the campaign,” said Cook. “Their generosity has brought about extraordinary transformations at Allegheny.”
