MEADVILLE, Pa. — Dec.
4, 2002 — Six new members have been named to the Allegheny
College Board of Trustees. Joining the board were Chris Allison,
Alice S. Bierer, William H. Brown Jr., Ann Jones Gerace, Hayes
Stover, and Marvin Suomi.

Chairman, Tollgrade Communications, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Under Allison’s leadership, Tollgrade Communications, a manufacturer of testing equipment for the telecommunications industry, was recently named to Fortune’s small business list of “Fastest Growing Small Companies in America,” for the second year in a row.

‘59, Chief Executive Officer, Essex Grain Products,
Inc., Frazer, Pa.
After Bierer and her husband purchased Essex in the early 1970’s, they steadily expanded the regional distributor of food ingredients—establishing major distribution centers in Frazer, Pa., Newark, N.J., and Norwood, Mass.

& Company, Inc., Sewickley, Pa.
Brown has worked for Merrill Lynch since shortly after graduation from Allegheny. He is a member of a number of business and professional organizations in the Pittsburgh area including the International Association for Financial Planning, the Institute of Certified Financial Planners, the Economics Club of Pittsburgh, and the Pittsburgh Society of Certified Financial Analysts.
- Ann Jones Gerace
‘60, Executive Director, Conservation Consultants,
Inc., Pittsburgh, Pa.
Gerace’s nonprofit organization promotes environmental responsibility through education, service and demonstration programs, with special attention given to lower-income and elderly households. Gerace received the Catalyst Award for 2002 from the Carnegie Science Center.

Kirkpatrick & Lockhart, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Stover has worked for Kirkpatrick & Lockhart, the largest law firm in Pittsburgh, since he graduated from Harvard Law School. Now a partner in the firm, he represents employers in all areas of labor and employment law.
- Marvin Suomi, President and CEO, KUD International,
LLC, Santa Monica, Calf.
Suomi is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Princeton University. KUD International is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kajima, one of the largest construction-related service companies in the world. His first “Allegheny experience” was as a Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow two years ago, which he describes as a “reaffirmation of health of liberal arts in America’s colleges.”
The Board of Trustees of Allegheny College has oversight responsibility for the policy-making and resource management functions of the College. These responsibilities include determining the institutional mission; approving the educational program; ensuring the well being of faculty, students, and staff; and ensuring strong financial management and resources.
“The College community is fortunate that these exceptionally talented men and women have made the commitment to help lead Allegheny at such an exciting time for the College,” Allegheny President Richard Cook said. “The remarkable breadth of experience that all of our trustees bring to their work is matched only by the depth of their commitment to the College. It is a privilege to be working alongside them.”
