Grants & Gifts
The Thomas Lord Charitable Trust has awarded a grant of $116,000 to endow the Lord Lecture Series at Allegheny College. This endowment ensures that the Lord Lecture in Chemistry will continue to bring world-class scientists to our region to interact with the scientific community, teachers, students, and interested citizens for years to come.
Professor of Physics and Chemistry David Statman has been awarded a $50,000 research grant from the Donors of the American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund. Statman's research project is "Photo-Induced Reorientation of Dyed Nematic Liquid Crystals."
The Franklin H. and Ruth L. Wells Foundation recently made a grant of $25,000 to Allegheny College in support of student-faculty collaborative research in the Natural Sciences Division.
Allegheny College has been awarded a grant of $215,000 by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to initiate a series of related, sequential programs over the next three years that will enhance advising and mentorship for all students. We will develop our faculty's expertise in advising and, in the process, develop a stronger, more consistent Academic Planning Program that will assist students in designing their academic and co-curricular programs.
Creek Connections has received a grant from the PPG Industries Foundation. With this gift we will be able to purchase equipment for middle and high school teachers in the French Creek watershed who participate in the Creek Connections program. This equipment is a significant benefit to teachers because it enables them to engage their students in authentic scientific research.
The Buhl Foundation recently awarded a grant of $50,000 to the College's computer science department. This gift will support curriculum redevelopment and restructuring in order to incorporate technology-supported pedagogy in critical courses.
