Five Gators Earn All-NCAC Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Five members of the Allegheny College lacrosse team were named to the 2008 All-North Coast Athletic Conference squad announced on Wednesday. Highlighting the Gator selections was a first-team nod for freshman attacker Jensen Paterson (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School).
Paterson (pictured right) led the Gators with 44 goals in 2008, the sixth highest single-season total in school history. She also totaled 13 assists and led the club with 57 points and 35 draw controls.
Earning second team honors for the Blue and Gold was senior attacker Ashley Hughes (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and junior defender Katie Murphy (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township).
Hughes (pictured below) scored 35 goals and tallied a team-best 16 assists on her way to becoming the most prolific scorer in Allegheny history. She finished her career with 125 goals, 54 assists, and 179 points - all tops in the Gator record book.
Murphy started all 16 games and finished tied for the team lead with 24 ground balls. She also won 22 draw controls and caused 10 turnovers.
Allegheny also had two players earn honorable mention status including senior attacker Laura Hoch (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) and sophomore attacker Christina Zanic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair). Hoch, a 2006 all-conference pick, totaled 28 goals and 12 ground balls while Zanic scored 32 times and picked up 13 grounders.
The Gators (7-9, 4-2 NCAC) won four of their last six regular season games and clinched a spot in the NCAC Tournament - where they finished fourth. The team loses five starters to graduation but is expected to return three of its top five scorers in 2009.
