Allegheny Places Three on All-NCAC Squad

May 13, 2008

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Allegheny men's tennis team placed three of its players on the All-North Coast Athletic Conference team following their performance during the 2007-08 season. Junior Matt Chiricosta (Avon Lake, Ohio/St. Ignatius) was a first-team selection in both singles and doubles for the Gators.

Allegheny finished the regular season at 13-6 overall with a 4-2 mark in league play. The Gators (15-7) then earned a pair of wins at the conference tournament in late April to secure their second consecutive third-place finish.

Chiricosta, who earned second-team All-NCAC honors in both 2006 and 2007, was 13-8 during the season while competing primarily at #1 singles. He was also 3-2 in conference play and teamed up with senior Andy Zipf (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) for an 8-8 mark in doubles action. The duo picked up first team recognition after landing second and first team honors in 2007 and 2006, respectively.

Zipf also earned honorable mention status from the conference along with junior Matt Winters (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands). Zipf, a second-team selection in both 2006 and 2007, was 8-8 during an injury-plagued senior campaign while Winters (pictured left) was a team-best 14-5 while competing primarily at 2, 3, and 4.

Allegheny loses three of this year's seniors to graduation but is expected to return a solid nucleus of players in 2008-09 that consists of eight letterwinners.
