May 13, 2008
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Three members of the Allegheny women's tennis team earned All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors for their performance during the Gators' 14-10 run in 2007-08. Freshman Lauren Kristofco (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) highlighted the selections with first team status in singles as well as second team recognition in doubles.
Kristofco went 11-11 with a 3-3 mark in NCAC play while competing solely at #1 singles. She also teamed up with fellow freshman Sara Longo (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) as the squad's #1 doubles tandem. The duo posted an 11-12 record while winning three out of six matches in league play en route to picking up second team honors.
Also garnering honors for the Gators was Kristyn Paone (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy), who picked up honorable mention status in singles. The senior captain was 11-10 on the year while competing mostly at #2 and #3. She also picked up three conference victories and won the eventual match-clincher in the NCAC Tournament quarterfinals against Ohio Wesleyan.
Allegheny's 14 wins and fourth-place finish at the conference tournament was the best showing by a Gator women's squad since the 1999-00 season.
The 2008-09 Gators are expected to return 12 of 13 letterwinners while losing only Paone to graduation.
