Gators Claim 2008 NCAC Title

DELWARE, Ohio - For the eighth time under head coach Bill Ross, the Allegheny women's track and field team captured the North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship. The Gators tallied a conference-record 268 points while Ross and senior Liz Earley (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) were named Coach of the Year and Field Athlete of the Year, respectively.
The Gators picked up four individual titles, one relay championship, and 15 all-conference performances en route to setting the NCAC record for points. Ohio Wesleyan was the next closest team at 199 points while Oberlin (134), Wooster (86), and Denison (50) rounded out the top five.
Emily Pfeufer (St. Marys, Pa./Elk County Catholic) brought home a pair of conference titles with a triple jump of 11.11m and a 37.74m javelin throw. She also finished second in the high jump at 1.61m.
Liz Straus (Kirtland, Ohio/Kirtland) earned the conference championship in the high jump (1.61m) while placing third in the 400m hurdles (1:07.32). Katie Stancik (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Russell) picked up another Gator title in the 1500m run (4:52.20).
Jessica Gratton (Bridgeville, Pa./Chartiers Valley) placed third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.54 while Ogechi Nwokedi (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) finished second in the 400m dash (59.71)
Rebecca Lendyak (Cowansville, Pa./Ford City) placed second in both the 100 (13.02) and 200m (26.44) dash while Alexandra Mikovich (Albion, Pa./Northwestern) came in third during the 200m (26.96)
Mia Symoniak (Snyder, N.Y./Amherst Central) and Eva Weyers (Delanson, N.Y./Duanesburg) went 2-3 in the 5000m run with respective times of 18:56.10 and 19:04.88.
The Gator 4x100 relay squad took first with a time of 50.51 while the 4x400 squad placed third (4:07.70).
The Gators return to action at the North Central Last Chance Meet on May 15 and 16. Earley and Pfeufer have already qualified for the 2008 Division III National Championships to be held on May 22-24 at Oshkosh, Wisc.
