Gators Fall at OWU in NCAC Semifinals

DELAWARE, Ohio - The 2008 campaign came to an end for the Allegheny lacrosse team (7-9) on Friday as the Gators fell 13-9 to Ohio Wesleyan in the NCAC semifinals. Despite the loss, senior Ashley Hughes (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) became the all-time leading goals scorer in Allegheny history.

The Gators jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after goals from seniors Lana Cannon (Peaks Island, Maine/Portland) and Laura Hoch (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy). Ohio Wesleyan took over from that point and scored six consecutive goals including a pair from Alexa Deaton. Allegheny was able to break the run when Jensen Paterson (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School) found the back of the net with just :22 left on the first half clock. The team’s exchanged goals for most of the second half with Allegheny getting no closer than three at the 40:23 mark.

Hughes led the Gators with three goals and two assists, running her school-record totals to 125 goals, 54 assists, and 179 total points. Also for Allegheny, Katie Murphy (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) picked up three ground balls while Emma Hudson (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) won four draw controls.

In goal, Leslie Stange (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) recorded eight saves to finish her career with a school-record 497 over four seasons.

Hughes and Hoch were both named to the all-tournament team for their efforts.
