Gators Lead NCAC Championships
May 1, 2008 DAY ONE RESULTS
DELAWARE, Ohio - The Allegheny women's track and field team holds a 30-point lead over second place Ohio Wesleyan after day one of the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship.
After Allegheny (80) and Ohio Wesleyan (50), Oberlin sits in third place with 34 points while Wooster (24) and Denison (22) are fourth and fifth.
The Gators went 1-2-3 in the 10,000m run as Rachel Hutchinson (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin), pictured right, captured the conference title with a time of 40:09.56. Eva Weyers (Delanson, N.Y./Duanseburg) and Mia Symoniak (Snyder, N.Y./Amherst Central) were second and third with respective times of 40:14.25 and 40:33.36.
Liz Earley (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) also brought home a conference title in the shot put with a throw of 12.01m and finished second in the discus throw (36.21m).
Emily Pfeufer (St. Marys, Pa./Elk County Catholic) had the third Allegheny title in the long jump with a leap of 5.38m while Liz Straus (Kirtland, Ohio/Kirtland) was fifth in the event with a jump of 4.77m.
Sarah Sammel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) finished second in the pole vault with a jump of 3.19m.
In preliminary action, Pfeufer and Jessica Gratton (Bridgeville, Pa./Chartiers Valley) are third and fourth in the 100m hurdles. Ogechi Nwokedi (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) leads the 400m dash while Rebecca Lendyak (Cowansville, Pa./Ford City) and Alexandra Mikovich (Albion, Pa./Northwestern) are second and third in the 100m dash.
Katie Stancik (Russell, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) finished fourth in the preliminary run of the 800m while Gratton is third in the 400m hurdles. Lendyak leads the 200m dash while Mikovich and Nwokedi are third and fourth.
