Gator Men 1st on Day One of NCACs

DAY ONE RESULTS

DELAWARE, Ohio - After one day of competition, the Allegheny men's track and field team sits in first place (59 points) out of the 10 teams competing at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.

Allegheny leads host Ohio Wesleyan (56) by three points while Wabash (32), Oberlin (27), and Earlham (24) sit three through five.

The Gators picked up a pair of individual titles on day one as Frank Tupta (University Heights, Ohio/Hawken) claimed the conference crown in the shot put with a toss of 15.22m.

Jakeb Zimmerman (Leechburg, Pa./The Kiski School), pictured right, had Allegheny’s other first place finish in the 10,000m run with a time of 32:47.47. Ryan Hanson (Presto, Pa./Chartiers Valley) took second in the event at 32:49.69 while Tom Lee (Mt. Vernon, Ohio/Mt. Vernon) scored with a seventh-place showing (33:45.58)

Peter Sotherland (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central) and Cedric Gamble (Boalsburg, Pa./State College) placed fourth and sixth, respectively, in the pole vault with jumps of 4.19m and 4.09m. Matt Yurky (Homer City, Pa./Homer Center) and Joe McMahon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) went three-four in the long jump with respective distances of 6.59m and 6.49m - both season-bests.

In preliminary action, Yurky finished sixth in the 110m hurdles while Chas Moore-Seymour (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Francis) and Jeremy Walker (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) sit in second and third, respectively, in the 100m dash.

Jamie Drab (North East, Pa./North East), Tony Dipre (Twinsburg, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit), and Craig Ball (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) are second, fourth, and seventh in the 800m while Yurky is fourth in the 400m hurdles.

The Gators will look to close out a sixth consecutive outdoor conference title tomorrow.
