Gator Men Compete at Carnegie Mellon

NCAC MULTI EVENTS | CMU RESULTS

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Allegheny men's track and field team competed at the Carnegie Mellon University Senior Meet on Saturday while a pair of Gators traveled to Oberlin, Ohio for the NCAC Combined Event Championships. On Friday, senior Ryan Place (Meshoppen, Pa./Elk Lake) ran the 5k at the Gina Relays in Hillsdale, Michigan.

Matt Yurky (Homer City, Pa./Homer Center) and Joe McMahon (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) highlighted the day of competition for the Gators at Carnegie Mellon as each brought home a first and second place finish. Yurky won the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.94 and finished second in the 400m hurdles with a season best time of 58.10. McMahon (pictured right) took first place in the long jump with a leap of 6.63m and also took second in the triple jump with a distance of 13.85m, both Allegheny team season-bests.

Jamie Drab (North East, Pa./North East) competed in the 800m placing third, the first Division III finisher, with a time of 1:57.33 which eclipsed his career best by nearly five seconds.

Meanwhile at Oberlin, Peter Sotherland (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central) and Cedric Gamble (Boalsburg, Pa./State College) competed in the decathalon. Sotherland sits in fourth place while Gamble is fifth.

Place bettered his provisional qualifying mark in the 5000m with a time of 14:37.05. Overall, he finished in 13th place while competing in a primarily Division I field.

The entire Gator squad is back together next week for the NCAC Championships in Delaware, Ohio on Thursday and Friday, May 1-2.
