GAME ONE BOX SCORE | GAME TWO BOX SCORE

BETHANY, W. Va. - The Allegheny softball team (21-13) wrapped up its 2008 non-conference slate with a sweep of Bethany (16-18) on Thursday. The Gators won 7-2 in the opener and 9-0 in the nightcap.

Allegheny trailed 2-1 after five innings of play but went ahead 3-2 following a two-run sixth inning. The Gators then added four runs in the seventh as Liz Burr (Farmdale, Ohio/Badger), Maggie Bodenlos (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy), and Kristin Paul (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) all collected RBI base hits.

Amanda Downey (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) allowed two first-inning runs before shutting the Bisons down for the final six. She surrendered six hits and struck out two while pushing her record to 15-6 on the year.

At the plate, Burr and Marci Potuzko (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) were each 3-for-4 with an RBI while Paul drove in a pair.

In game two, Allegheny broke things open with a four-run fourth inning as Katie Wills (McKees Rock, Pa./Montour) singled home two and Rebecca Burns (Rogersville, Pa./West Greene) and Abby Bodenlos (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) each drove in one.

Abby Bodenlos, pictured above, then homered for the third time in 2008 as the Gators scored twice in both the sixth and seventh to end the game at 9-0.

Rachel Ryan (West Salem, Ohio/Northwest) and Maggie Bodenlos each went 3-for-4 while Abby Bodenlos was 4-for-5 with five RBI.

Allison Korotkin (Birmingham, Mich./Detroit Country Day) pitched five innings of shutout ball to get the win for Allegheny. Ryan made her first pitching appearance on the year and struck out a pair over the final two innings.

The Gators (9-3 NCAC) wrap up the regular season at conference-foe Wittenberg on Saturday. Allegheny can clinch at least a share of the NCAC regular season title and the right to host the conference tournament with a win over the Tigers. If the Gators sweep the doubleheader, they will win the outright NCAC title in addition to hosting the conference tournament on Friday and Saturday, May 2-3.
