Gators Earn Split at PSU-Behrend

ERIE, Pa. - The Allegheny baseball team (15-15) split a non-conference doubleheader at Penn State Behrend (24-8) on Tuesday afternoon. The Gators lost 3-2 in game one but bounced back to earn a 5-1 victory in the second game.
Trailing 1-0 in game one, the Gators scored single runs in the third and fourth after RBI from J.R. Hess (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) and Isaac Marx (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny).
Pete Obourn (Farmington, N.Y./Victor) held the lead until the seventh when Behrend scored twice on three hits and an error. Geoff Lang delivered the game-winning hit with a single to score Dave Smith.
Fran Haus picked up the win for Behrend after allowing only one earned run over seven inning and striking out five. Obourn also allowed only one earned run but fell to 1-4 on the season.
The Gator bats awoke early in game two as Charlie Fine (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Charter) singled in a pair to make the score 4-0 in the third. Reigning NCAC Hitter of the Week Zach Skowvron (Georgetown, Pa./South Side Beaver) added an RBI single of his own in the sixth.
Colt Viehdorfer (Morrisdale, Pa./West Branch), pictured above, had his best outing of the year, tossing six innings of one-run ball to get the win. Steve Miller went the first two for Behrend and was dealt the loss.
Allegheny returns to action on Thursday, April 24 at John Carroll. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.
