Gators Defeat St. Vincent 15-5

MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Allegheny lacrosse team (6-8) defeated St. Vincent College (6-3) by a score of 15-5 in non-conference on Tuesday afternoon.
Allegheny started the game on a 4-0 run with Christina Zanic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) scoring twice at 21:26 and 17:33. Zanic scored once more in the period along with four other Gators to make the score 7-2 at half.
St. Vincent opened the second stanza with two quick goals from Lauren Eller to cut the Allegheny advantage to 7-4. From that point, it was all Gators as the Blue and Gold outscored the Bearcats 8-0 over the final 26:20 of the contest.
Zanic, pictured below, finished the game with four goals while Ashley Hughes (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and Laura Hoch (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) each scored three times.
Hughes also picked up an assist and moved to within four goals of breaking the all-time Allegheny record for scores in a career. She already holds the Gator records for total points and assists.
Kaitlan Biondi (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) recorded a career-high four ground balls to go along with a pair of caused turnovers while Katie Murphy (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) totaled three ground balls and one forced turnover.
In goal, Lesley Stange (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) allowed only four goals and recorded nine saves. Rachel Coons (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) also saw time in net and picked up a save.
The Gators close out the regular season at home against Kenyon on Saturday. The game will virtually serve as a playoff contest as the winner will earn the #4 and final seed in the upcoming NCAC Tournament. All of the action is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
