Gator Duo Earns NCAC Honors

Apr 22, 2008

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Allegheny College senior thrower Liz Earley (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and freshman sprinter Rebecca Lendyak (Cowansville, Pa./Ford City) have been named North Coast Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week for their performances at the Elite IUP Open on Saturday.

Earley earned Field Athlete of the Week honors after setting a new school-record in the hammer throw. Her throw of 177 feet broke her old school-mark set back in 2007 and also met the NCAA automatic qualifying standard.

Lendyak, pictured right, earned Sprinter/Hurdler of the Week status after finishing second in the 100m dash (12.91). She was also a part of the Allegheny 4x100 relay team that finished in a conference-season-best time of 50.91 seconds.

The Gators will split squads this upcoming weekend at the Gina Relays in Hillsdale, Mich. on Friday, April 25 and the NCAC Combined Event Championships on Saturday and Sunday.
