Gators Compete at IUP Invite

INDIANA, Pa. – The Allegheny men’s track and field team competed at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Invitational on Saturday. In addition, senior thrower Frank Tupta (University Heights, Ohio/Hawken) traveled to Westminster and landed an NCAA Championships provisional-qualifying mark in the shot put.

Tupta’s distance of 53’7.75’’ beat his old career-best by more than three inches.

At IUP, Tony Dipre (Twinsburg, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and Joe McMahon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) were the top Gator finishers, each earning second place honors in their respective events. Dipre ran a career best 1:55.44 in the 800m run while McMahon placed second in the triple jump (13.83m). Craig Ball (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) joined Dipre by finishing fifth in the 800m (1:57.86).

Allegheny had a pair of three-four finishes in the 1500m run and the 5000m run. In the 1500m, Matt Hoy (Moon Township, Pa./Moon) ran to a time of 4:08.79 while Jeramie Parker finished in 4:10.78. In the 5000m, Chris Marker (Arlington, Va./Yorkstown) posted a time of 15:57.20 while Matt Smith (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) finished in 16:03.70.

Competing in the 3000m steeplechase, Matt Brush (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) finished in 10:18.80, edging the fourth place competitor by two seconds, to earn a third place finish.

The Gators will split squads next weekend at the Gina Relays in Hillsdale, Mich. on Friday, April 25 and the NCAC Combined Event Championships on Saturday and Sunday.
