GAME ONE BOX SCORE | GAME TWO BOX SCORE
MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Allegheny softball team (19-13, 9-3 NCAC) split a conference doubleheader with Denison (18-10, 6-6 NCAC) at Robertson Field on Saturday. The Gators used a five-run fourth inning to win game one 5-3 but fell 10-1 in five innings during game two.
In the opener, Denison scored single runs in the first and fourth with Alex Murray going deep for the second of the two scores. The Gators answered with five in their half of the fourth as Katie Wills (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) drove in one with a sac-fly, Kristen Paul (Greensburg, Pa./Great Latrobe) singled in one, and Abby Bodenlos (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) connected for a three-run homer (shown right). The Big Red scored once more in the fifth but it wasn’t enough as the Gators held on 5-3.
Amanda Downey (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) battled her way through seven innings to push her record to 14-6 on the year. The freshman scattered 10 hits and worked her way around two Gator errors while recording two strikeouts.
The Gators were never able to hit stride in game two as Denison scored three times in the first and seven more times in the third. Claire Kropko and MaryBeth Krolikowski each homered while combining for six of the nine Denison RBI.
Wills drove in the lone Allegheny run with a single in the fourth inning.
Allison Korotkin (Birmingham, Mich./Detroit Country Day) started but only last 2.1 innings in the loss. Sam Rumschlag held the Gators to the lone run despite allowing eight hits in the win.
