Gators Defeat Clarion at PNC Park

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Allegheny baseball team (10-14) defeated Division II Clarion (7-19) by a score of 9-7 at PNC Park on Thursday afternoon. Junior outfielder Zach Skovwron (Georgetown, Pa./South Side Beaver) went 3-for-5 on the day with three RBI and two runs scored.
The Gators scored twice in the first after a two-run triple to right center by Alex Herrnberger (Eighty Four, Pa./Canon McMillan). Clarion came back with three runs in the second with Jay Krimsky doubling in one and Matt White singling home two more.
Allegheny was able to answer with five runs in the bottom of the inning as Skovwron and Andy Schleihauf (Connellsville, Ohio/Connellsville) each drove in a pair with singles. Clarion staged a comeback with three runs in the fourth but the Gators were able to add insurance runs when Skovwron tripled home a run in the fourth and Matt Barclay (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) picked up an RBI single in the eighth.
C.J Knudsen (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) pitched three innings of scoreless baseball to get his second win of the year while James Fago (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) pitched the final two innings to get the save.
Mike Pereslucha (Pittsburgh, Pa./Kiski) started and went the first four innings while also batting 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored.
The Gators return to conference action this weekend with a four-game series against Oberlin at Robertson Field in Meadville. Doubleheader action is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
