Allegheny Wins on the Road at Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio - The Allegheny lacrosse team (4-6, 2-0 NCAC) opened a key weekend of conference competition with an 18-17 win over Oberlin (2-8, 0-4 NCAC) on Saturday afternoon.
The Gators trailed 6-4 in a back and forth first half but took a 7-6 lead after three straight goals from Ashley Hughes (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), Rina Marinzel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel), and Christina Zanic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) during a four-minute span halfway through the period. Oberlin answered with a 3-0 run to end the half and took a 9-7 lead into the break.
The second half was more of the same as the lead changed hands four more times before the Gators went up 15-14 following a Jensen Paterson (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School) goal with 17:51 remaining. Allegheny would then build their lead to 18-15 after another Zanic goal with 1:41 left to play. Oberlin scored twice in the final 1:12 but could get no closer as the Gators held on 18-17.
Zanic (pictured above) scored a game-high six goals while Hughes totaled three goals, three ground balls, and three caused turnovers. Paterson also scored three times to go along with a pair of assists while Lana Cannon (Peaks Island, Maine/Portland) won three draw controls.
Oberlin was led by Taylor Fey, who totaled five goals, two assists, and seven draw controls. Maggie Casey scored four times with four draw controls while Scarlett Prati recorded four goals and seven draws.
In goal, Lesley Stange (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) recorded 13 saves while improving her record to 4-6 for the Gators. Kaitlin Barrer totaled nine saves in net for the Yeowomen.
The Gators are right back in action tomorrow at Denison. The opening draw is set for 11:00 a.m.
