Gators Take Two from Ohio Wesleyan Apr 12, 2008 GAME ONE BOX SCORE | GAME TWO BOX SCORE
In game one, the Gators were able to get on the board early as Abby Bodenlos (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) led off the bottom of the first with a single and came around to score on a Rachel Ryan (West Salem, Northwestern) double later in the inning. Allegheny was able to add to the lead with a two-out rally in the third. Liz Burr (Farmdale, Ohio/Badger) got things started with a double to right center while Marci Potuzko (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area), Ryan, and Maggie Bodenlos (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) all followed with RBI hits. Ohio Wesleyan scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings but the Gators were able to answer with an insurance score in their half of the sixth. Starting pitcher Amanda Downey (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex), pictured above, went all seven for the Gators and struck out four batters while allowing six hits and no walks. The victory improved the freshman’s record to 11-6 on the year. Rachel Seibel (7-7), the reigning NCAC Pitcher of the Week, suffered the loss after allowing four earned runs over six frames. Ryan, the conference’s hitter of the week, finished the contest 3-for-3 with two RBI and a pair of runs scored.
The Gators topped the Bishops by crossing the plate four times in both the first and second. Maggie Bodenlos and Allison Korotkin (Birmingham, Mich./Detroit Country Day) each drove in two while Potuzko (pictured left) connected on a three-run homer. The Bishops scored once more in the third on a Catrice Mayweather homerun but saw the Gators answer with two more in the bottom of the inning after a Ryan two-run single. Leading 10-4, Allegheny closed things out as Potuzko and Ryan hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the fifth to make the score 12-4. The game was called due to the eight-run rule. Korotkin allowed four runs in five innings while picking up her fifth win of the year. Mayweather went the distance and took the loss for the Bishops. At the plate, Potuzko was 3-for-3 with four RBI and three runs scored while Ryan was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Allegheny returns to action on Wednesday, April 16 at Hiram. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
