Allegheny and Baldwin-Wallace Split Doubleheader

BEREA, Ohio – The Allegheny softball team (14-12) split a doubleheader at Baldwin-Wallace on Thursday. The Gators rallied from four down in the fifth to take game one 5-4 before dropping game two by a count of 4-1.

In the opener, Baldwin-Wallace scored four times in the first two innings after homeruns from Tanya Davis and Caitlin Myor.

The Gators came back with two in the fifth as Liz Burr (Farmdale, Ohio/Badger) singled home Sarah Reilly (Dunkirk, N.Y./Dunkirk) and Abby Bodenlos (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) scored on a Yellow-Jacket pick-off play. Bodenlos reached after one her three walks in the game.

Still trailing by two, Allegheny scored three more times in the sixth inning as Reilly (pictured right) drove in a pair and Burr singled home another. Amanda Downey (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) held the Jackets scoreless over the final four innings and totaled four strikeouts en route to picking up her 10th victory of the season.

In game two, the Gators scored once in the first after Rachel Ryan (West Salem, Ohio/Northwestern) picked up her first of three base-hits in the game. Allegheny’s lead held until the fourth when the Jackets tied the game on a Monica Brasse RBI double. Baldwin-Wallace then scored three times in the sixth as Myor and Brasse knocked in runs.

Allison Korotkin (Birmingham, Mich./Detroit Country Day) allowed four earned runs over six innings in the loss while BW’s Katey Munshower went all seven innings for the win.

The Gators (4-2 NCAC) get back into conference action with a home doubleheader against Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 12:15 p.m.
