FREDONIA, N.Y. - After a week off from competition, the Allegheny lacrosse team (3-6) got back into action on Thursday and dropped a 15-7 decision at Fredonia State (6-3).
Fredonia scored the game’s first four goals in the opening 12:40 of the first half as Christie Zaganiaczyk found the back of the net twice. Allegheny answered with goals from Meg Grossman (Lexington, Ky./Sayre School) and Jensen Paterson (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School) over the next two minutes, but saw the Blue Devils score six more times to counter two Gator goals over the duration of the half.
Defense picked up in the second half as the team’s combined for only eight goals; however, five of those goals came from Fredonia as the Gators fell 15-7.
Grossman and Paterson (pictured right) each scored twice for Allegheny while Kaitlin Biondi (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) and Katie Murphy (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) recorded two ground balls and two caused turnovers apiece. Paterson won a game-high four draw controls.
Alyssa Przydrozny totaled a game-best six goals for the Blue Devils while Emily Reichert recorded three ground balls, three draw controls, and three caused turnovers.
Lesley Stange (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) recorded eight saves but suffered the loss in net for Allegheny while Sarah Wright got the win for Fredonia.
Allegheny returns to action this weekend with a conference twin bill at Oberlin and Denison on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s opening draw is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. while Sunday’s is set for 11:00 a.m.
