Apr 9, 2008

GAME ONE BOX SCORE | GAME TWO BOX SCORE

WOOSTER, Ohio - The Allegheny College softball team (13-11, 4-2 NCAC) dropped a pair of one-run games to The College of Wooster (13-13, 3-3 NCAC) on Wednesday. Each contest was decided in the seventh and final inning as the Gators fell 3-2 and 4-3.

Runs were at a premium in the opener as each side crossed the plate once in both the first and third innings. Allegheny’s first run came after an Abby Bodenlos (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) triple and a Liz Burr (Farmdale, Ohio/Badger) double in the opening inning. The second came when Marci Potuzko (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) singled home Bodenlos (pictured right) in the third.

Wooster manufactured its first two runs with “small-ball” but picked up the game-winner after a Priscilla Staples triple in the seventh.

On the mound, Amanda Downey (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) fell to 9-6 on the year after allowing two earned runs on seven hits. For the Scots, Andrea Kelley went the distance and allowed only six hits to improve to 7-3.

In game two, the Gators erased a 1-0 deficit in the fourth with a two-out, three-run rally. Kristin Paul (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) singled in Rachel Ryan (West Salem, Ohio/Northwestern) for the first score while Allison Korotkin (Birmingham, Mich./Detroit Country Day) doubled in a pair to conclude the rally.

However, the Fighting Scots answered with two in their half of the inning before scoring the game-winner on a passed ball in the seventh.

Korotkin allowed three earned runs on four hits in the losing effort while Ronni Wasmuth (3-4) pitched two shutout innings in relief to pick up the win for Wooster.

Allegheny will look to rebound tomorrow at Baldwin-Wallace. First pitch from Berea, Ohio is set for 3:30 p.m.
