Apr 6, 2008

GAME ONE BOX SCORE | GAME TWO BOX SCORE

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Allegheny softball team (13-9) wrapped up the week with a doubleheader split at Case Western Reserve (9-15) on Sunday. The Gators fell 10-2 in game one but rebounded to win 7-3 in game two.

In game one, the Gators fell behind 4-1 in the fourth before Case Western added six runs over the final two frames to secure the win.

Rachel Ryan (West Salem, Ohio/Northwest) drove in the first Gator run with a sac-fly while Katie Wills (McKees Rock, Pa./Montour) drove in the other with a single to right field.

Amanda Downey (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) gave up four earned runs to fall to 9-5 on the year. The other six Case runs were unearned as a result of three Allegheny errors. Ruthe Sagartz struck out four batters over six innings to pick up her fifth win of the season for the Spartans.

In game two, the Gators wasted no time in responding, scoring three times in the first inning after RBI from Liz Burr (Farmdale, Ohio/Badger) and Ryan. Allegheny added one more in the fifth and three more in the seventh as Ryan (pictured above) hit a two-run blast to right-center.

On the mound, Allison Korotkin (Birmingham, Mich./Detroit Country Day) worked around control issues to even her season-record to 4-4.

Allegheny returns to action at Wooster on Wednesday, April 9. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
