Gators Fall at La Roche 5-4

Apr 2, 2008

BOX SCORE

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Allegheny baseball team (4-10) dropped a close 5-4 decision to host La Roche College (14-6) on Wednesday afternoon.

Both teams scored once in the first before Allegheny scored three runs combined in the fourth and fifth innings. Andy Schleihauf (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville) and Charlie Fine (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Charter) each drove in runs with sac-flys while Mike Pereslucha (Pittsburgh, Pa./Kiski) hit an RBI single.

However, the Gators were unable to close the deal as La Roche scored three times in the sixth inning and once more in the bottom of the ninth to pick up the 5-4 win.

Pereslucha was saddled with the loss after pitching 1.1 innings in relief. Aaron Skalko (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) started and was solid through the first three innings while Colt Viehdorfer (Morrisdale, Pa./West Branch) pitched two perfect frames in middle-relief.

Matt Young (State College, Pa./State College) was 3-for-5 at the plate while Schleihauf (pictured above) was 1-for-2.

The Gators open North Coast Athletic Conference play this weekend with a four-game series at Kenyon on Saturday and Sunday. First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
