Allegheny Rallies to Beat Thiel
Apr 1, 2008 BOX SCORE
GREENVILLE, Pa. - The Allegheny baseball team (4-9) erased a three-run, eighth-inning deficit to defeat Thiel College (10-7) by a score of 10-9 on Tuesday.
The Gators scored twice in the first after an RBI double by Zach Skovwron (Georgetown, Pa./South Side Beaver) and a sac-fly by Mike Pereslucha (Pittsburgh, Pa./Kiski). Thiel was able to counter with three runs in the bottom of the first before Pereslucha put Allegheny back on top with a two-run homer to the opposite field in the third.
The Tomcats tied the score in the bottom of the third and went ahead with a four-spot in the sixth. However, Allegheny took advantage of two Thiel errors to score four times in the eighth inning with an RBI single by Brian Schmidt (Utica, Pa./Franklin) leading the rally.
Thiel scored another run in the bottom of the frame but the Gators would score the eventual game-winner after a Matt Young (State College, Pa./State College) sacrifice in the ninth.
Young, pictured right, finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs scored while Alex Herrnberger (Eighty Four, Pa./Canon McMillan) was 3-for-5. David Strawser (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) started on the mound for the Gators and struck out seven in four innings of work. C.J. Knudsen (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) threw 1.1 innings in relief to pick up his first career win while Justin Abbott (Pittsburgh, Pa./Carrick) pitched a perfect ninth to get the save.
The Gators return to action on Wednesday, April 2 at LaRoche College. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
