April 1, 2008

GAME ONE BOX SCORE | GAME TWO BOX SCORE

MEADVILLE, Pa. – A pair of first-inning rallies paved the way for an Allegheny (10-8, 2-0 NCAC) sweep of Oberlin College on Tuesday afternoon. The Gators won game one 11-2 and took game two by a score of 18-2 with each game being called after five innings.

In the opener, the Gators jumped right out of the gate, scoring 10 times in the first inning with Rachel Ryan (West Salem, Ohio/Northwestern) and Allison Korotkin (Birmingham, Mich./Detroit Country Day) each hitting homeruns. Liz Burr (Farmdale, Ohio/Badger) also drove in a pair with a triple in her second at-bat of the inning.

Oberlin scored single runs in the fourth and fifth but the game was called early with the score 11-2.

Amanda Downey (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex), pictured right, pitched five innings with six strikeouts while earning her seventh victory of the season.

Abby Bodenlos (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) and Rebecca Burns (Rogersville, Pa./West Greene) each went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored.

Game two took on a similar storyline as Allegheny crossed the plate eight times in the first inning. Freshman catcher Marci Potuzko (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) drove in three runs during the rally with a single and a triple. Burns drove in a pair with a double while Korotkin also singled in a run. Allegheny then added three more runs in the second as Korotkin doubled home Abby Bodenlos and Burns before scoring on a wild pitch.

Fresh off of her no-hitter on Sunday, Korotkin went the distance with six strikeouts to pick up the victory for the Gators.

Potuzko, Burns, and Maggie Bodenlos (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) all finished with three RBI while Bodenlos was a career-best 4-for-4 overall.

The Gators return to action this weekend with a road trip to Kenyon and Case Western Reserve on Saturday and Sunday. First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
