Gators Finish 5th at Western PA Meet

COMPLETE RESULTS

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Allegheny women’s track and field team finished fifth out of 15 teams competing at the Western PA Championships hosted by Carnegie Mellon on Friday and Saturday. Overall, the Gators finished ahead of one Division I team and four Division II squads despite not competing in any of the throwing or relay events during the meet.

St. Francis (157) took home the team title while Robert Morris (101), Westminster (73.30), and Duquesne (64) placed in front of Allegheny (53).

In the field portion of the meet, senior Emily Pfeuffer (St. Marys, Pa./Elk County Catholic) finished in the top 10 in three events, including placing fourth in both the long (17-04.00) and triple (35-00.25) jumps. Her distance in the long jump was tops amongst Division III competitors.

Sarah Sammel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park), pictured above, finished second in the pole vault with a height of 10-06.00 while Liz Straus (Kirtland, Ohio/Kirtland) placed third in the high jump (5-01.00).

Ogechi Nwokedi (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) finished fourth in the 800m run with a time of 2:25.27 while Katie Stancik (Russell, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) placed fifth in the 1500m run with a time of 5:01.77. Straus placed seventh in the 400m hurdles (1:10.19) while the duo of Alexandra Mikovich (Albion, Pa./Northwestern) and Rebecca Lendyak (Cowansville, Pa./Ford City) placed seventh and 10th, respectively, in the 200m with times of 27.22 and 27.45. Eva Weyers (Delanson, N.Y./Duanesburg) also turned in a top five finish in the 5000m run (18:39.00). All six times met qualifying marks for the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship meet.

The Gators next compete at Washington & Jefferson on Saturday, April 5.
