GAME ONE BOX SCORE | GAME TWO BOX SCORE

MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Allegheny softball team (6-8) dropped both ends of a doubleheader with #19 Mount Union (11-3) on Wednesday despite holding a late lead in each of the two ball games. The Gators fell 5-4 in game one and 9-6 in the nightcap, which was called after six innings due to darkness.

Mount Union, ranked 19th in the nation according to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, opened the scoring in game one with a three-run first inning highlighted by a two-run homerun from Katie Olive. The Gators answered with single runs in the first and fourth with RBI coming courtesy of Rachel Ryan (West Salem, Ohio/Northwestern) and Maggie Bodenlos (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy).

Allegheny then went ahead in the fifth after a two-run homerun by Liz Burr (Farmdale, Ohio/Badger), pictured below. However, the Gators couldn’t hold on as the Raiders scored twice in the top of the seventh to capture the 5-4 win.

Amanda Downey (5-3) allowed three earned runs over seven innings in the losing effort while Lindsey Royer (7-2) picked up the win for the Raiders.

In game two, Allegheny scored five times in the first inning as Bodenlos tripled in two and Burr singled in another. Katie Wills (McKees Rock, Pa./Montour) and Rebecca Burns (Rogersville, Pa./West Greene) also drove in runs with RBI doubles. The Gators then added another run in the second when Marci Potuzko (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) "went yard" to center field.

However, Mount Union battled back and scored seven runs combined in the fourth, fifth, and sixth to go ahead 9-6. The game was then called due to darkness.

Downey (5-4) was dealt another loss, tossing 1.2 innings in relief while Royer (8-2) threw the final two for the Raiders.

Allegheny has the weekend off before hosting Oberlin on Tuesday, April 1. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
