Gators Fall to Falcons in Home Opener

The Gators fell behind 5-0 with just under 20 minutes to play in the first half as Jenna Schuerman scored on a free position shot for the Falcons. Allegheny battled back with a 5-1 run ending in a Jensen Paterson goal with 6:11 left before half, bringing the score to 6-5. However, Notre Dame held Allegheny scoreless for the final 36:11 of the contest en route to the 11-6 Falcon victory.
Paterson totaled five points for the Gators on two goals and an assist while senior Ashley Hughes (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) scored once to move within three points of breaking the all-time school record. Lana Cannon (Peaks Island, Maine/Portland), Katie Murphy (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township), and Hughes all won two draw controls while Erin Foster (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) and Leslie Stange (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) each picked up two ground balls.
Molly Merrill and Gena McPherson each scored three times for the Falcons while the former of the pair added three draw controls.
Stange went all 60 minutes in net for the Gators and recorded nine saves while Kylie Flett picked up seven in goal for the Falcons.
Allegheny returns to action on Saturday with a home bout versus Ohio Wesleyan. Game-time is set for 1:00 p.m.
