Gators Finish Ninth at Jekyll Island

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - The Allegheny women’s golf team wrapped up competition at the Jekyll Island College Classic on Sunday. With rough weather conditions, the Gators shot 354 as a team in round three and placed ninth overall in the 26-team field.

Lisa Coleman (Lakeview, N.Y./Frontier Central) led Allegheny’s top five with an 86 while Laura Hilger (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) finished two strokes back at 88. Both Alison Bruckner (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) and Jamie Reints (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) shot 90 while Kristi Archer (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) rounded out the scoring with a 92.

Two Gators competed as individuals, including freshman Julia Wears (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy), who finished with a career-best score of 81. Laura Burkholder (Erie, Pa./Collegiate Academy) totaled 92 strokes as Allegheny’s other competitor.

With the first action of the spring under their belts, the Gators next compete at the McDaniel Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, March 29-30.
