Gator Women Off to Solid Start at Jekyll Island

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - In their first event of the 2008 spring campaign, the Allegheny women's golf team sits in the top 10 at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Classic.

The Gators, ranked ninth in Division III heading into the tournament, totaled 342 as a team and were led by Alison Bruckner's (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) 82.

Jamie Reints (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) was second for the Gators with an 86 while Lisa Coleman (Lakeview, N.Y./Frontier Central) and Kristi Archer (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) each shot 87. Laura Hilger (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) was Allegheny's fifth scorer with a 93.

Two Gators competed as individuals, with Laura Burkholder (Erie, Pa./Collegiate Academy) and Julia Wears (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy) totaling 88 and 95, respectively.

Allegheny continues action tomorrow with an 8:30 a.m. tee-time.
