GAME 1 BOX SCORE | GAME 2 BOX SCORE

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Allegheny baseball team (2-8, 0-4 NCAC) ended its spring trip by dropping both games of a twin bill against #2-ranked Wooster (16-1, 4-0 NCAC) on Friday. The Gators fell 4-0 in game one and dropped a heart-breaking 7-6 ballgame in game two.

Pitching ruled for most of the opener, with Wooster scoring three of the game’s four runs in the third inning. The Gators had several scoring opportunities, but similar to yesterday, were unable to get the one hit to break through.

Mike Pereslucha (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) was the tough-luck loser for a second time this trip, pitching 6.1 innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits, and striking out four.

Adam Samson (2-0) went the distance for the Scots and surrendered only five hits and one walk while striking out nine.

Game two was a different story as Allegheny scored six times in the first inning, with RBI doubles from Matt Young (State College, Pa./State College) and James Fago (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) and a two-run single by Pereslucha highlighting the inning. In the frame, the Gators recorded three run-scoring hits with two outs.

The Fighting Scots chipped into the Gator lead over the next two innings with a run in the first and three more in the third. John Warren led the Wooster charge with a pair of RBI singles during that span.

In the top of the sixth, the Scots scored again when Sean Karpen knocked an RBI single into left. Wooster attempted to tie the score with a double-steal from the corner bases in the next at bat, but the Gators executed well, as first baseman Matt Barclay (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) gunned down a runner at the plate to hold the lead at 6-5.

However, the Scots kept the pressure on in the seventh, tying the score after a Dan Skulina RBI single and taking the lead with a double-steal with two out.

J.R. Hess (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholiec), battling a sore arm for most of the trip, started on the mound for Allegheny and went the first three innings, allowing two earned runs. Aaron Skalko (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) came on in relief and was handed the loss despite striking out five batters in four innings of work.

Mark Miller (3-0) went the final four innings for the Scots and did not allow a run en route to picking up the win.

For the Gators, it's time to head north as the squad is scheduled to host Grove City on Wednesday, March 26 in Meadville. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
