Allegheny Swept by Washington and Jefferson Mar 16, 2008 GAME 1 BOX SCORE | GAME 2 BOX SCORE
In game one, Washington & Jefferson picked up an unearned run in the bottom of the first after a hit-batter and an error but saw Pereslucha tie the game in the second with a solo homerun to left center. The Presidents regained the lead in the bottom of the inning when Justin Benson scored on an RBI groundout by Jim Pasquine then threatened to score again in the fifth. Pereslucha was able to pick up a strikeout with a runner at third and two out to get out of the jam. The sophomore then came up in top of the fifth and belted his second homer of the day, third in three games, to make the score 2-2. W&J broke the tie in the sixth with the eventual winning runs when Neil Pascarella knocked a two-run triple down the right field line. Pereslucha (0-1) was dealt the loss, allowing three earned runs and fanning four in a complete game effort. Dan Vietmeir (1-0) earned the victory for the Presidents, striking out eight in six innings while Pasquine came on for his third save of the year.
The see-saw battle continued in the fourth when the Presidents scored with a Pasquine RBI single to make the score 6-5 and the Gators answered with an RBI infield hit from Pereslucha to bring the game to even. Alex Herrnberger (Eighty Four, Pa./Canon McMillan) put the Blue and Gold back on top with an RBI groundout, but the lead was short-lived as W&J’s Tyler Kaido went yard to dead center, making the score 7-7. The Presidents went back ahead with the winning run in the sixth and added an insurance score in the seventh. Freshman David Strawser (Tipp Center, Ohio/Tippecanoe), pictured left, took the loss for the Gators, tossing five innings in relief with six strikeouts. Ian Poole (1-0) tossed 1.2 innings in relief while picking up the win for the Presidents. In addition to Pereslucha’s 2-for-4 effort, both Pete Obourn (Farmington, N.Y./Victor) and Andy Schleihauf (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville) went 2-for-4 with the former of the pair adding two RBI. The Gators jump back into action tomorrow morning with a nine-inning contest against Heidelberg set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
