Allegheny Falls at R.I.T

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Allegheny lacrosse team (0-2) trailed by only one after a half of play but was outscored 8-4 in the second period en route to falling 11-6 at the Rochester Institute of Technology (2-1) on Thursday. Despite the loss, senior goalie Leslie Stange (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin) became the all-time saves leader in Gator history.

The game started out as a defensive battle with neither team able to reach the scoreboard for the opening 16:04 of the contest. Allegheny got on the board first when Ashley Hughes (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) scored unassisted at the 13:54 mark before R.I.T’s Jessica Cotton scored twice in less than a minute to give the Tigers a 2-1 advantage.

The Gators tied things up when freshman Jensen Patterson (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School) scored her first career goal on a free position shot with 9:41 left in the first half. The Tigers were able to answer 57 seconds later to take a 3-2 lead into the break.

R.I.T opened the second half with four goals in six minutes to bump their advantage to 7-2. Hughes broke the run with her second unassisted goal that was quickly answered with four more scores by the hosts.

Hughes totaled a team-best three goals in the contest while Laura Hoch (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) totaled two for the Gators. Christina Zanic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) picked up two assists while Katie Murphy (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) won two draw controls. Abby Silvester (Mentor, Ohio/Lake Catholic) and Lana Canon (Peaks Island, Maine/Portland) each picked up three ground balls for the Blue and Gold.

The Tigers were led by Amanda Crozier and Danielle Previ with two goals and two assists apiece while Ashley Peeze picked up seven ground balls.

Stange (pictured above) went all 60 minutes in goal for Allegheny and recorded 14 saves, giving her 364 for her career. Allegheny was outshot 39-26 and lost the ground ball battle 42-23.

The Gators now take to West Palm Beach, Florida in search of their first win and will get a chance against Springfield on Sunday, March 16 at 8:30 p.m.
