Pfeufer Gets NCAA Mark at DePauw
March 8, 2008
GREENCASTLE, Ind. – Allegheny College senior Emily Pfeufer (St. Mary’s, Pa./Elk County Catholic) met the NCAA Division III Provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump, missing her own school record by just three inches in the process, while also winning the long jump at the 2008 DePauw University qualifier.
Pfeufer leaped to a distance of 37-6.0 in the triple jump, a distance that currently sits her ninth in the country with only today’s competitors given the opportunity to supplant her on the national list. She is currently ahead of the mark for last season’s NCAA final qualifier in the event, as she looks to compete at the 2008 NCAA Division III National Championships hosted in Ada, Ohio by Ohio Northern University.
The senior also took first in the long jump, leaping to a distance of 17-6.75, just three inches from the national qualifying standard.
Sarah Sammel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) won the pole vault with a season-best height of 10-8, topping the field by over a foot.
The next meet for the Gators is the aforementioned National Meet, where Pfeufer’s hopeful attempt will be added by Liz Earley (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township), who is currently ranked fifth in the country.
