Two Gators Named to All-Conference Team
Mar 5, 2008
CLEVELAND, Ohio – A pair of Allegheny Gators were named to the 2008 All North Coast Athletic Conference team, as sophomore forward George Raftis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley) and senior guard Bill Babe (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) earned second team and honorable mention status, respectively.
Raftis (12.9 ppg/8.7 rpg) led the Gators in both scoring and rebounding in 2007-08 while ranking first in the NCAC on the boards. He also recorded six double-doubles on the year and set a career-high with 26 points at Kenyon in mid-February.
Babe, an honorable mention pick in 2006-07 as well, averaged 7.6 points per game during what was mostly an injury-plagued senior campaign. For his career, he finished with 914 points and ranks fifth on the all-time Gator list with 154 three-pointers.
Allegheny endured an up and down season filled with injures to earn the #6 seed in the NCAC Tournament. The team fell in the semifinal round but not before snapping Wittenberg’s 22-game quarterfinal win streak in round one. The Gators are expected to return all three of their top 2007-08 scorers next year.
