Gator Trio Earns All-Conference Honors

March 5, 2008

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Three players from the Allegheny women’s basketball squad were named to the 2008 All-North Coast Athletic Conference team, announced by the NCAC on Wednesday morning. Junior forward Stephanie Wolf (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) highlighted the Gator selections by being named a First-Team honoree.

Along with Wolf, sophomore forward Emilie Simone (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) and sophomore guard Brittany Bell (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) were named second team and honorable mention selections, respectively, for a squad that finished 8-8 in the conference under first year head coach Kate Costanzo.

Wolf was an all-around contributor this season, ranking 14th in the conference in scoring (11.0 ppg), 11th in rebounding (5.8 rpg), and third in assists (4.65 apg). She was the only player in the NCAC to rank in the top 15 in scoring and rebounding and the top 10 in assists. Wolf also led the league in steals per game (2.65).

Simone was Allegheny’s top scorer during the year at 11.8 points per game and finished second on the squad in rebounding (5.2 rpg) – numbers that ranked ninth and 15th in the league overall. She also ranked sixth in the NCAC and led the Gators with a .454 shooting mark from the field.

Bell (10.1 ppg) came up big for the Gators during the second half of the season, scoring in double-figures during seven of the team’s last nine contests while reaching the 20-point plateau twice. She finished fourth in the NCAC and led the Gators in three-pointers (54) while finishing second in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (.466).

As a team, the Gators (11-15) won six of their last nine games including an upset of eventual conference tournament champion Denison during the final game of the regular season. Allegheny finished fifth overall in the NCAC and has the luxury of not losing a player to graduation this year.
