KENT, Ohio – Eleven North Coast Athletic Conference championship-qualifying marks, six personal bests and a NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark were the byproducts of the Allegheny College women track & field team’s final tune-up before the league championship. The team, competing at the Kent State University Tune-Up, was paced by an eighth place finish by senior Liz Earley (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) in the hammer throw, an event she met the NCAA Provisional qualifying mark in.

Earley’s throw of 54-11.25 was her third best of the season, as the senior currently ranks in the top five in the country in the event. The senior also competed in the shot put, where her toss of 34-11.75 placed her 24th overall, while also meeting the league qualifying standard.

Emily Pfeufer (St. Mary’s, Pa./Elk County Catholic) placed within the top 20 in four different events, also meeting the league marks in the quartet. She was highlighted by her sixth place finish in the triple jump, where she leaped to a distance of 33-8.75. She took ninth in the long jump with a distance of 16-1.50, before taking 13th in the high jump by clearing 4-11.0. Her final top-20 finish came in the 60-meter hurdles, where she crossed the finish line in a personal-best time of 9.96, converted to a 9.38 over the 55-meter distance.

Also competing in the high jump for the Gators was Liz Straus (Kirtland, Ohio/Kirtland), who took ninth with an indoor personal-best height of 5-1. Rounding out the field event crew for Allegheny was Sarah Sammel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park), who placed ninth in the pole vault, clearing 10-4.75, her third best clearance of the season.

Two athletes, Eva Weyers (Delanson, N.Y./Duanesburg) and Rachel Hutchinson (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) ran blistering times in the 3,000-meter run, Weyers taking 11th in a time of 10:46.85, with Hutchinson setting a personal best, finishing less than a second from Weyers, in a time of 10:47.15, good for 12th place in the large field.

First-year Gators Katie Stancik (Russell, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) and Stephanie Alberico (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) finished neck-in-neck, as the pair each met the NCAC qualifying standard in the 800-meter run, the former finishing in a time of 2:25.32, good for 14th place, with the latter in a time of 2:26.75, 18th place overall. Claire Lemasters (Shadyside, Ohio/St. John Central) narrowly missed the NCAC qualifying mark en route to a career-best time in the mile, 5:35.74.

The Gators open the league championships on Friday, February 28, competing in the two-day event hosted by Denison University in Granville, Ohio.
