Wolf's Career Night Leads Gators to Victory

HIRAM, Ohio - Junior forward Stephanie Wolf (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) scored a career-high 25 points as Allegheny (7-12, 4-6 NCAC) completed a season sweep of Hiram (3-15, 1-9 NCAC) with a 69-61 win on Tuesday night.

With the score tied at five early in the contest, Allegheny gained the upper hand with a 7-0 run ending in a Brittany Bell (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) three-pointer with 14:14 remaining in the first half. Hiram scored the next four points to cut the lead to three, at 12-9, but saw the Gators go on a 9-2 run culminating in a Jill Gregory (Jeanette, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) jumper to make the score 21-11 with 9:35 left in the period.

Hiram once again battled back to trim their deficit to three, at 31-28, with a Stephanie Zunic triple with 4:04 left before the break. The Gators were able to answer with an 8-3 run over the final four minutes paced by four points from Wolf to take a 39-30 lead into intermission.

Allegheny’s advantage was never seriously threatened in the second half, as the Terriers could only get as close as six on three separate occasions. The Gators led by as many as 13 at the 5:33 mark when Hilary Collins (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) connected on a three-pointer to make the score 63-50. In all, both teams totaled 30 second half points as the Gators defeated Hiram for the second time in 2007-08.

In addition to her 25 points, Wolf totaled four rebounds, three assists, and went a perfect 9-of-9 from the charity stripe while Emilie Simone (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards. Bell followed up a career-high 20 points and NCAC player of the week honors last week with 14 points and six boards.

Zunic paced the Hiram effort with 20 points and 10 assists while Ashley Drum totaled 14 points and seven rebounds.

The Gators shot .439 from the field compared to .373 from Hiram while the Terriers held a slim 41-40 edge on the boards.

Riding consecutive wins for the first time since early December, Allegheny will look to make it three in a row against Wittenberg on Friday, February 8. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
