MEADVILLE, Pa. - A 9-0 Denison run to open the second half and a 10-3 run to end it provided more than enough margin for a 60-50 Big Red (10-7, 6-2 NCAC) victory over the Gators of Allegheny College (5-12, 2-6 NCAC) in conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Gators never led in the contest and fell behind by eight, at 20-12, when Denison’s Shaina Kaiser scored on a layup with 10:46 left in the first half. Allegheny battled back over the next four minutes and eventually tied the game at 24 apiece when Stephanie Wolf (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) converted on a three-point play with 6:33 left before the break.

Denison answered back with a quick 5-0 run and would head into intermission with a four-point lead, 33-29.

The visitors opened the second half with a 9-0 run ending in a Carolyn Simpson jumper with 16:18 left on the clock. The Allegheny deficit held around double-digits for most of the second period until a 5-0 Gator run capped by a Laura Magnelli (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) jumper cut the Denison lead to three, at 50-47, with 8:32 left in the game.

Allegheny would not connect on another field goal the rest of the way, managing only three Magnelli free throws that were countered by 10 points from the Big Red, giving Denison the 60-50 win.

Wolf led the Gators with 16 points, six rebounds, and three steals while Magnelli totaled 11 points and eight boards. Shannon Culbreath (Columbus, Ohio/Eastmoor Academy) chipped in with nine points, eight rebounds, and three assists.

Simpson paced the Denison effort with 18 points and 14 rebounds while Haley Dahlgard also chipped in with 18 on the scoreboard.

As a team, the Gators shot only .279 from the field and hit only 1-of-10 from beyond the arc while Denison shot .472 and connected on 6-of-12 from three-point range.

Allegheny will try to snap a four-game losing streak on Wednesday when it travels to Wooster. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
