Gator Aquatic Teams Swept by Tartans

RESULTS

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Allegheny swimming and diving teams were swept at Carnegie Mellon on Saturday, as the women's squad fell 162-129 while the men fell 191-91. Erin Ham (Franklin, Pa./Franklin Area) led the women with three first-place finishes while Josh Sesek (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) paced the men with a pair of first-place performances and a second-place showing.

The women opened the event with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with the team of Carolyn Nairn (Lubbock, Texas/Brownell-Talbot), Ham, Katie Scherry (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River), and Megan McGuire (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) finishing in a time of 1:55.13.

Ham went on to capture first in both the 100-yard (1:08.70) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.00), turning in season-best times in each event. She was also victorious in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing in 2:23.32.

Megan Knox (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) also had a pair of first place performances in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:25.60 and the mixed 200 yard freestyle (2:00.70).

Glenna Kramer (Oakdale, Pa./West Allegheny) turned in a strong showing on the boards, capturing first in the three-meter dive (224.30) and second in the one-meter (206.65).

Nairn had a pair of second place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke with a season-best time of 1:04.35 and the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:18.79.

Allegheny got three other second-place finishes from Tara Stein (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) in the 50-yard freestyle (26.96), Arielle Conti (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:15.46), and Alycia Conway (Lyndhurst, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) in the 200-yard individual medley (2:25.13).

On the men’s side, the Gator 200-yard medley relay squad of Cory Monroy (Goleta, Calif./Dos Pueblos), Sesek, Ryan Lawrence (Union City, Pa./Union City), and Colin Gundling (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) placed second with a time of 1:42.16.

Individually, Sesek went on to capture victory in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:16.40 while finishing second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.23). He also finished first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:08.50.

Gundling picked up a pair of second place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (22.82) and the 100-yard butterfly (56.37). Following Sesek in the 200-yard medley was Monroy, who finished second with a time of 2:11.34. Jayson Loeffert had the Gator’s other individual first-place finish in the three-meter dive (258.80).

The men closed the event by capturing first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a season-best time of 3:34.46 behind Rob Schreiner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair), Beau Whiteman (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek), Kinney, and Evan Lewis (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius).

The Gators return to the pool next Saturday, January 26 at Division II Edinboro. The meet is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
